Here are the big-ticket construction projects Ohio State will float at this week's trustees meeting

Columbus Business First has pulled together a list of big construction projects going before Ohio State University's board of trustees this week.

Some projects already have been approved to start construction, but Ohio State still needs to hire the people to do it. Other projects need approval to start construction and some projects are seeking for approval for both at the same time.

The majority of the projects are on main campus, but there are two projects for branch campuses and one off-campus site.

Celeste Lab Renovation:

  • Total budget: $29 million.
  • Paid by: university funds and state funds.
  • Description: This project will provide upgrades to building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The project will renovate chemistry laboratories and support spaces. The project will replace building elevators and improve the exterior of the building.
  • Construction timeline: August 2019 - August 2022.
  • Needs: Professional services approval.

Indoor Tennis Center:

  • Total budget: $21.9 million.
  • Paid by: University debt and development funds.
  • Description: This project will construct a new 75,000-square-foot indoor tennis facility in the Athletic District adjacent to the existing outdoor tennis facility. The project includes six courts, 450 spectator seats, men/women varsity locker rooms, athletic training room and offices.
  • Construction timeline: September 2019 to December 2020.
  • Needs: Professional services approval.

Newark – Science and technology Building:

  • Total budget: TBD.
  • Paid by: University debt, development funds and university funds.
  • Description: This project will construct a 40,000-square-foot building that will contain biological and physical sciences research and teaching labs, classrooms, learning and academic support spaces. The space will serve both OSU Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.
  • Construction timeline: August 2019 to January 2021.
  • Needs: Professional services approval.

Health Sciences Faculty Office and Optometry Clinic Building:

  • Total budget: $28.3 million.
  • Paid by: University funds and auxiliary funds.
  • Description: Demolish three existing buildings at the corner of W. 11th Ave and Neil Ave. to construct approximately 87,000-square-foot building for optometry clinics, retail, faculty offices and support spaces. Key project for the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center.
  • Construction timeline: December 2018 to March 2020.
  • Needs: Professional services and construction approval.

Wexner Medical Center Ambulatory Facilities:

  • Total budget: TBD.
  • Paid by: Auxiliary funds (health system).
  • Description: Design approximately 222,000-square-foot building that will include ambulatory surgery, endoscopy, primary care, specialty medical and surgical clinics and related support. The facility will be located at Hamilton Road and Rt. 161 in Columbus.
  • Construction timeline: September 2018 to September 2020.
  • Needs: Professional services and construction approval.
