ON-A reveals park that will swaddle Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium
Spanish architect ON-A has revealed its design for Nou Parc, a project that is intended to transform Barcelona FC’s Camp Nou stadium into a forest.
Inside the forest, there is a 2.4km running route, picnic areas and two rainwater lakes to provide natural cooling. A panoramic view is available at the park’s highest point.
The 260,000 sq m forest will link Barcelona’s Les Corts and the University Area, and will be located above the stadium and its facilities.
The project aims to increase the amount of green space per inhabitant, while creating 15,000kg of oxygen and absorbing 25,000kg of carbon dioxide a day.
ON-A comments: “According to the philosophy of the office, the renaturation of cities and the creation of quality spaces for its citizens is not just an interesting idea, but a need.
“Barcelona currently has just over 6 sq m of green areas per inhabitant. According to the World Health Organisation, cities should have a minimum of 9 sq m.
